  1. For folks on the go, portable power is a must to keep your gadgets going. For those that can only afford to carry a small power pack in their purse or coat pocket, the Anker PowerCore 5000 is a perfect fit.The PowerCore 5000 is an attractive matte black cylinder-shaped power bank. On the top of the device you get a microUSB input port (2A) and your PowerIQ output port (also up to 2A). This is not bad at all for this size of charger. I have a RAVPower Luster PB08 lipstick style charger, but it can only input/output 1A. So you not only get faster charging of your phone, but also of the charger itself. On the sides of the PowerCore you get three indicator lights showing battery level and a power button. Finding power indicator lights is also rare and very nice for a “mini” portable charger of this size. Very simple and sleek design.I must point out that you also get some nice extras that other power banks simply do not include. You get a nice quality microUSB cable and a very nice textured carrying case. This will keep your device in tip top shape as it will be protected from everyday bumps and scrapes. So onto testing. I successfully charged an iPhone 5S, iPhone 6S+, and Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge with this charger. No, you don’t get QuickCharge 2.0, but charging at 2A is still plenty quick and a huge leap over your standard 1A chargers. I managed to charge my S7 Edge one complete charge and then 30-40% on the next charge. Very nice capacity for as small as this device is.Not much not to like here with the PowerCore 5000. I suppose if I were king for a day, the one thing I would like to see added to this device is a built in flashlight. But overall, this mini charger has impressive capacity, features, performance, and nice extras. For those days when you can’t lug around a high capacity power bank, this is a perfect daily companion.

  2. Can I just say, I’m in love with Anker products? They keep finding ways to show me how they can simplify and make my life more convenient! The Anker PowerCore 5000 is the smallest portable battery unit that I have used from them and shows me yet another way not all batteries are created equal, even if they are from the same company! But this is a good thing.I recently received a PowerCore 20100 which I think is amazing since it holds 8000 mAh more than my 2nd Gen Astro3 12000 mAh battery. However, the Anker PowerCore 5000 matches (if not more) this convenience in its size.I work in a fast paced environment where my cell phone is used constantly and I can’t afford to be without it if it dies and needs to be tethered to a wall charger. Previously I was carrying either my Astro3 or the PowerCore 20100 in my pocket with my phone which is quite funny to watch when I need to run somewhere. Unless you’re one of those people who don’t mind your pocket swinging like it’s stuffed with a pound of sand! That’s where the benefit of the PowerCore 5000 comes in.This thing is awesome. It weighs about the same as my phone (HTC M8) and is about the size of a small flashlight. I forget it’s in the pocket of my cargo shorts. My wife actually has commented that she’s going to take it because it’s so small, it’ll easily fit in her purse. What you receive is the PowerCore 5000, a 2 ft micro-usb cable, and a pouch to carry everything in. The pouch is large enough to carry the PowerCore 5000, usb cable, and has decent enough space left over in case other items need to be carried. It comes with an 18 month warranty and lifetime technical support as well. It uses Anker’s PowerIQ which adapts the power output to match the optimum charging rate of device being charged. It does not have QuickCharge technology; however it outputs at up to 2A which allows for a quicker than normal charge over other batteries or adapters that use 1A or 1.5A.Upon receiving it, I drained the battery and charged it to 100% using a 1.5A charger which took 3 hours 15 minutes. The speed that it will charge is based upon the adapter you use. Anker sells some pretty amazing USB wall chargers that would be a great purchase in addition to their batteries. I plan on purchasing their 3 port QuickCharge 3.0 wall charger at some point in the future. I then used the PowerCore 5000 to charge my HTC M8 from 17% to 100% which took 1 hour 45 minutes. I then charged it from 60% to 100% and then again from 24% to 44% before it was fully drained. As with my other Anker products, the build quality is top notch. In fact, Anker continues to improve it’s products making subtle improvements that I’ve been able to notice with each product I’ve owned.Overall, I am very happy with this product mainly from the small size and capacity that balances convenience and functionality over my larger batteries. Don’t get me wrong, they still have their place, but the PowerCore 5000 is a much better option for carrying in your pocket.

  3. I currently have a few battery packs from Anker, but they are 10,000 mah and bigger. My problem with them is that they were always too bulky and didn’t fit well in my pocket with my phone. I love the PowerCore 5000 as it can fit in my pocket next to my phone, but still provides plenty of power. This has been especially helpful during my recent travels and with Pokemon Go which murders my phone’s battery. I can easily make it through the day while watching hours of video while traveling. I have drained and charged this pack over 25 times and it has been flawless every time I need it.The battery has a 2 amp output which will charge most devices at full speed. Charging is limited to 1 amp and takes about 4 hours to fully charge. I would love to see Quickcharge 2.0 on this pack, but I’m sure that would only just raise the price. For the cost, this pack is a no brainer.
