  1. Id probably give this 3.5 stars if that were an option. This is a solid game with a lot to offer, but there are some shortcomings. First, the positive. The game is long, so you’ll get your money out of it. I’ve put in HUGE hours since release, probably clocking a good 40 hours thus far, and there is still a great deal more to do. If I had to guess I’d say I’m about 60% finished. The driving mechanic was VERY well done, especially for a dev who hadn’t done one before. The only big thing I would have liked to see is an “E-Brake” or powerslide option, especially with all that wonderful sand around! But alas, there isn’t one. Car handling is very solid, and engine sounds are MAGNIFICENT, and they change as you upgrade your rig. I haven’t even fired up the V8 yet and I’m already in love with the noise my car makes.Graphics are solid and the wasteland is striking, with great weather effects. They did a pretty good job of making a relatively drab looking world look sharp.Lots of upgrades for both max and the car. The combat system is good, but needs some work. More to come on that. The story isn’t spectacular, but for this type of game, who really cares. Now some negatives…The combat system needs some work. Although it is fun and brutal, it can get very frustrating. Finishing moves often get interrupted, which is unforgivable. Once you grab a guy and start to body slam him, it isn’t fair to the player to have some goon punch him and interrupt it, especially since at that point you aren’t able to reverse anything. Large scale brawls can be irritating for that very reason. It certainly isn’t as solid as Arkham, but it isn’t without its own brutal charm.Upgrades for Max, though plentiful, ran their course too quickly. At about the 60% mark, I have already completely upgraded Max completely. Everything I can possibly give HIM–skills, weapons, armor etc, is all done, with a lot of game left ahead of me. I have achieved the maximum rank, Road Warrior, and have many hours left ahead of me. At this point though, there is no reward left in terms of advancement for our beloved hero. The big engine upgrades come fairly late in the game. I’m well over half done and I’m not even to the point where I can unlock the V8. But the V6 isn’t all that bad and for most things you won’t even miss the bigger engine. The game does get VERY repetitive. Yes, there is a LOT to do, but ultimately it is all the same thing over and over again. You start at one base, helping them with projects to build up the stronghold, then kill everything in their territory to remove the threat, then you move on. Unfortunately, you have to do that four or five times, and the projects and activities don’t change. You just do the same thing in a new area. Again, not bad, but it lacks the variety of The Witcher, Dragonage or the Arkham series. Still, a great first outing for a Mad Max game, and one that is long over do. But I’d like to have seen fewer of the same old, same old, and some more fleshed out activities that didn’t seem to monotonous. All in all, a solid game that you probably won’t want to play through without popping in something else for some variety, but it will provide some serious hours of enjoyment that you can keep coming back to, chipping away at it between releases of some other games. And like many of us, it is a great primer for Fallout 4…..

  2. I’ll tell you upfront that some may find this game repetitive. I’ll also tell you that I don’t care because it’s so good. Oh, more cars to smash into scrap? OK! More goons to pummel into submission. I’m OK with that, too. I actually wish that convoy’s respawned after a certain amount of time, because they are an awesome challenge and tons of fun to take down.Vehicle combat is a lot of fun and challenging sometimes. Other times it can be very easy to just take out a wheel with the harpoon and then come back to pulverize the helpless vehicle. But that’s one of the things that I love about this game – you can use different techniques to vary the experience and have a good time with it.Melee combat is a less polished version of the Batman Arkham games, which is OK. It’s pretty challenging to fight large groups, as it should be. Single combat or even taking on a couple of bad guys at a time isn’t very hard.Story is fairly sparse with most of the game consisting of collecting stuff… scrap to upgrade Max and his vehicle, parts for fortress upgrades, food and water to stay breathing. There are some races to do that are fun, but not usually too difficult.Max’s vehicle can be changed up on the fly. You can change body styles, armor (balance between speed and protection), engines, etc. That adds a nice variety. I don’t totally get the whole “archangel” car build game mechanic. I guess they are just templates for the unimaginative. You can also steal enemy cars/trucks and take them back to a fortress for later use.Overall, this is a really fun game for treasure hunter types, vehicle combat fans, and/or huge fans of Mad Max.

  3. very good I like playing the game by my self as I am 71 and not as fast as the younger people. they should make more game that can be played by a single person

  4. This is a really good game. Very underrated. I have played about 3-4 hours worth. So, here are PROS and CONS:PROS:The combat is very fun, both vehicular and on foot. Tons of different enemies and vehicles to face, many different upgrades for your car and max, and it never gets old. I compare it to the Batman Arkham games, but more in deph. The size of the map is big, with lots of different places to explore for parts (to upgrade your car, max, and fortress), enemy convoys to attack, minefields (use your dog to sniff them out), signal towers, snipers, oil producing facilities, gas exchanging facilities, and more. I have read that these get repetitive, but so far so good (especially for $20 dollars).Story so far is exciting. The voice acting is fantastic and I really like the other characters that help Max.Graphics are fantastic, and the atmosphere is glorious. Looking at the wasteland, it makes me very sad on the inside yet I must be on the eye for scouts and others who attempt to hurt Max.CONS:Still some noticeable glitches. They are not game breaking, but an example: I tried taking on a convoy that was way too powerful for me. My car (note: your car never “explodes”, but your sidekick, Chum, who rides with you if riding the main car, fixes it at a standstill or if you are checking a place out, even at 0 car health, BUT, you must get out of car or you will burn at 0 car health) was at 0 car health and I had 5 seconds to get out. I held the Y button, rolled out, part of me touched an enemy vehicle, flung me in the air (not in a rag doll affect though is if I was hit on, I was still standing), fell to my death. That should not be happening. But, you know why that isn’t gamebreaking? I probably would have still died anyway. With price included in rating: 4.75/5
